I quilt quilts that other people have pieced, using an A-1 Elite Longarm Quilting Machine.
In general, the client provides the quilt top and backing, and can provide batting if they have a batting preference. If not, I will use Warm and White or Warm and Natural 100% cotton batting.
We can meet at our studio to discuss designs and patterns. If you prefer, we can also have quilts mailed to us and discuss the specifics by phone or email.
Long Arm Quilting Prices
The cost for longarm quilting is generally calculated by square inch, and depends on the size of the quilt and the complication of the quilting design chosen.
For example, a quilt measuring 60 inches by 80 inches would cost in the neighborhood of $60.00 to $85.00 for the quilting. I collect VA sales tax on my services.
I need the backing to be 8 inches bigger than the quilt. In our example above, a 60 X 80 inch quilt top would need a backing and batting that is at least 68 X 88 inches.
What is the difference in piecing and quilting?
I get this question a lot. Piecing is the process of sewing different pieces of fabric together into a pattern.
Generally, quilting is the stitching that goes through the top, back, and batting to hold a quilt together. Many people enjoy piecing more than they enjoy quilting, and that’s okay! Hiring a longarm quilter can allow you to move on to the next piecing project in your stash faster.
